More Information
We all have busy lives.
We are rushing to work, trying to get the kids to school on time,
getting the errands done, and getting home to take care of the chores.
Take a few minutes today to Start a Plan!
Grab a piece of paper and start writing.
What do we do if...The house catches on fire in the middle of the night?
What do we do if...We have to evacuate our home?
What do we do if...There is a natural disaster?
What do we do if...Someone has a medical emergency?
By being prepared, and having your Plan and Disaster Supplies and Emergency Kits,
you can minimize the effect a medical emergency or disaster can have on you and your family.
Start Today!
Most people cannot afford to get Disaster Prepared in one day. That's OK.
Start now with the basic
Disaster Supplies, Emergency Kits and First Aid Kits.
As part of your plan, make a list of all the Disaster Supplies you need.
Next month, come back and purchase the next items on your list.
As you review and revise your Disaster Plan, you can continue each month
to add Disaster Supplies.
As the saying goes, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."
So start today, and whatever steps you take, you will be better prepared
when the next Disaster or Emergency situation arises.
Be Informed!
►Know what can happen with your Family.
Does someone in your family have a heart condition?
Does someone in your family have allergies?
Does someone in your family have diabetes?
Does someone in your family have a disability?
Check with your family doctor and discuss what you need to do
in a Disaster or Medical Emergency.
►Know what Types of Disaster can happen in your part
of the country.
Do you live in Earthquake Country?
Do you live in Hurricane Country?
Do you live in Tornado Country?
Do you live in Wild Fire Country?
Do you live in Winter Storm Country?
Do you live near an Airport, or a busy Highway where tanker trucks travel
or a Railroad?
Do you live in a rural area where help might take some time to arrive
and render assistance?
The more you know about the area in which you live, and the Disasters
that can occur, the more educated you can become, and the more Disaster
Prepared you and your family can be.
►Take a CPR and First Aid Class!
Everyone should be CPR and First Aid trained.
Hopefully, you will never have to use the skills you learn in class.
But if you get the training, you will feel more confident when something happens.
Remember to keep your certificates current!
► Make a list of Local Authorities and post it by the phone.
♦ You should have at least one "Land Line" phone.
In a Disaster, cell phones may not work.
If the power goes out, your internet phone or television cable service will not work,
nor will your cordless phone.
Who should be on the contact list?
911 - Only call 911 in a life and death situation.
Otherwise, call the non-emergency number.
Check the front pages of your local phone book and make a list
of the following numbers, along with any others you may need.
~ The non-emergency number for your local Police or Sheriff.
~ The non-emergency number for your local Fire Department.
~ Your Electrical Company.
~ Your Gas Company.
~ Your Propane Company.
~ Your Local City or County Government offices.
~ ALSO, post the telephone numbers of your doctors, family members
and your out of state contact.
