Nepal and Los Angeles - any similarities?

Here is an interesting article titled
"Like Nepal, LA sits on sediment easily shaken during a quake"

Earthquake Faults are located everywhere.  Some are more significant than others, but they are there.

Earthquakes happen, but they can trigger much more.
Aftershocks
Blackouts or Power Outages
Avalanches (depending on the location)
Debris Flows or Mudslides (depending on the weather and location)
Lava Flows (depending on the location)
Impassable Roads
Lack of Shelter, Food and Non-potable Water
Lack of Medical Services and Supplies
Diseases and the spreading of disease due to unsanitary conditions

Depending on When and Where, the list can go on.
The Crisis can go on for weeks - even years - before things get "back to normal".

You need to know what Disasters can happen in your area.
You need to be Disaster Ready.
You need to know it might take some time for help to arrive.
You need to know that help is not going to stay after the initial Disaster is over.
